I want to say an emotional thing and there isn’t going to be room for that as well as the text from the photos. 🤷🏻‍♂️] 12 months and 300+ piercings. It’s been such a wild year. I can’t believe that I’ve been doing this and that it seems to be going alright! Some days it feels like I’m building a plane while also flying it. I am so grateful to everyone who has helped make this possible. I couldn’t have done this without my friends and family, who on extremely short notice helped me load up all my things (including my examination table, a large glass cabinet, an autoclave, an industrial sink, and SO MANY BOXES). My clients who followed me from Next to @orchid.oddities . Everyone who told their friends/loved ones/coworkers/whoever to come to me for piercings. @ultra.violentte for giving me a place to rebuild myself when I learnt that I was going to be unemployed. To Rita from @vancitycu who set me up with a line of credit that allowed me to pay for the initial startup costs to running a business. There are always many unpredictable factors that go into successfully healing a piercing, but I will do my best to evaluate the risks and offer you my honest opinion. Just because a piercing may be a more difficult heal, doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t do it, but I will do my best to weigh the risks and inform you of the reality so that you can make an informed decision. I never posted Deb’s nostril piercing when I did it back in May, so here it is when we did it fresh as well as what it looks like now with some new jewellery! (I’m sad that the pictures didn’t come out as nice with the green gem 😅) She originally wanted a green gem, but I don’t usually have coloured gems in stock (they just don’t sell that well, so it makes more sense for me to just custom order them when folks want them). So, while we waited for my next @neometaljewelry order to arrive with her little green friend, we pierced her with one of my moonstone cabochons! While I was installing the new gem, I noticed that she had a helix piercing with a (her opinion as well as mine) terrible piece of jewellery in it. The 14g externally threaded barbell that she was wearing was too long and clunky, and had healed at a bit of an angle. I suggested that we put the moonstone on a new (properly fitted) 14g labret, so that she’d have something a little nicer in there, and so that she could keep wearing the moonstone 🌝 Threadless ends are compatible on posts from 18g-12g, meaning you can reuse them on different thicknesses of posts! I’m itching to start this project on @ultra.violentte She asked me earlier this year to make over her ears, and boy howdy did I go wild with this concept. She had a bit of a busy year, so it looks like we’re almost ready to start! After taking a bunch of photos at various angles, I came up with these placements for new piercings (you can’t do a mockup like this without knowing what the backs and sides of someone’s ears look like). We discussed colour options, and we’re going to go for a dark rainbow/galaxy colour palette, which goes great with her aesthetic! (for the curious: the opal colours we will be using are purple, peacock, black, fire, and capri blue.) 💜💙🖤❤️🩵 Generally I recommend only healing three (maybe four) piercings at a time, so I planned out how we are going to go about these piercings, so that the vision looks good and balanced during the whole construction process (which will likely take 14-24 months to pull off). I refuse to rush things like this, because my goal is that your piercings will heal correctly with as little complications as possible. The colours we will be using are all coloured opals cabochons from @neometaljewelry . Once the conch is healed, I am considering ordering in a big honkin’ statement piece from @anatometalinc that will match the stones in the rest of the look, but that will be a future decision. Hey y’all, Summer is here and things are getting BUSY. I am still operating Tuesdays to Saturdays from 12:00-6:00, however I am but a one-man-show so sometimes I am not available to come in, or I have to leave early. In an attempt to prevent walk-in folks from showing up when I’m not in, here are some days that will be impacted: MOST Thursdays I will be leaving by 4:45, as I have been taking handbalancing classes and that is the only time that they run. Christine keeps popping in to get cute things installed! On her last visit, we did a fresh conch and tragus piercing with genuine Moonstone cabochons from @neometaljewelry . We did a 3mm in the tragus and a 4mm in the conch (which I didn’t get a better photo of 🥲) The nostrils are rocking some 2mm moonstones, the second lobes have 2.5mm moonstones, and her helix has a (i thiiiink) 4mm lavender opal. Amora came in with a few piercings that were begging for an upgrade. Here’s what we did: In her right ear, we have lobes with a 5mm “X” shape, 3mm bezel-set “fancy purple” gem, a 3mm titanium disk, and in her helix a 5mm “bar” shape. On her left ear we have a stack of 14g and 16g clickers in her stretched lobe, as well as a 3mm bezel-set Onyx. The purple gem and titanium disk were her own jewellery that she brought in. I’m not sure who the manufacturer of that disk is, but I recognize that gem colour/setting as being from @neometaljewelry (purchased from the late @arcanebodyarts . I always loved seeing clients come in with their work and jewellery, and I’m super sad to see Vancouver lose one of the few piercing places that I trust.) The new studs I installed are all from NeoMetal as well, and the clickers are from @joeltrondotcom of Clickerino. New jewellery for Emma! We went with two 3mm opals from @neometaljewelry . Peacock opal on the left, and lime green opal on the right. I love how those colours compliment each other, as well as the dangly earrings and other opals already in their collection! I also anodized the ends, labrets, and chains to a lovely gold colour. I definitely made some excited bird noises when I saw that gold next to those blues and greens 😍🦚 I love making little custom chain pieces. A really fun set of piercings I got to perform for Harini! She had reached out to me after hearing about my blood promotion. She told me that I was able to provide enough motivation for her to finally register with Canadian Blood Services (she had previously been a donor back in India, where she grew up) Speaking of India, the piercings she got are actually a traditional piercing in various parts of Southern India that goes by a few names (India is Very Big and there are So Many languages spoken there). Some names I’ve encountered are Koppu or some variation of Bugudi/Bugadi/Bugdi. As someone who practices western body piercing, I call them “Vertical Helix” piercings. Unfortunately, a lot of the traditional earrings are not super great for healing (too bulky, too heavy, rough finish on the surface of the jewellery, etc). Those qualities will increase the likelihood of the piercing migrating, rejecting, or healing with excessive scar tissue. While these are healing, she is wearing simple implant-grade titanium labrets with plain 3mm balls from @neometaljewelry . Implant-grade material that is polished to a mirror finish will give you the best results when it comes to healing. The end goal for her ears is some traditional gold pieces. A fresh pair of “Angel Fangs” for Art, which look SO GOOD with their 12g septum I pierced back in March. I pierced these with two 16g internally threaded titanium curved barbells from @anatometalinc . I am very pleased with the placement and positioning, and I look forward to the next steps 🤩 The final look involves plans for large spikes, so once these bad boys have been downsized and are mostly settled, we’ll swap those bottom balls for something a little more “fang-y”. We could have started with some itty bitty spikes, but because Art wants the bigger ones eventually, we went with the cheaper option for now. While I would love to just give everyone the jewellery they want right away, I am more invested in having your piercing heal correctly so that you may enjoy wearing all the fun jewellery later. The next step in Marissa’s ear evolution is complete! Last time I posted her ear, I had anodized the titanium piece that was in her conch. She wanted some real gold, but the anodization was a nice placeholder until she figured out exactly what she wanted. We all bleed together. Following Saturday’s senseless tragedy, I find myself needing to do *something* tangible. Many people have already signed up to donate blood, but there will always be a need for more. I myself am ineligible to donate for a few more weeks (there is a 3-month deferral period after getting tattoos or piercings), but I am already booked in to give and I am encouraging you all to do the same. I will be offering FREE* piercing services with a discount on jewellery to people who have donated blood recently. I will suggest you wait at least 2 weeks post-donation before getting a piercing, because your body does need some time to recover. Proof of donation will be required (showing me your donation history on the Canadian Blood Services app will work just fine.) You can sign up on the CBS website (blood.ca) to book an appointment, find clinics, and to learn about eligibility criteria. Please note: because of the registration software they use, they have to register people with one of two binary gender options. They acknowledge that this is not ideal and they are working on that. After getting pierced, you will need to wait 3 months before you can donate blood again. *Free piercing covers the cost of ONE piercing service (reg. $25-$80). Jewellery will be 20% off.
